Fighting shuts down Libyan refinery

Posted by on March 9, 2011 0 Comment

Heavy fighting between Libyan revolutionaries and pro-Gaddafi forces has forced a shutdown of one of Libya’s biggest refineries as ruler Muammar Gaddafi continues to cling on to power.

The fighting intensified on Wednesday between anti-government forces and pro-regime troops in Zawiyah, west of the capital Tripoli, as the revolutionary elements called on Gaddafi to quit and leave the country within 72 hours.

The refinery is the largest provider of gasoline for vehicles in the country.

Zawiyah is under control of the revolutionary forces and troops loyal to Gaddafi are persistently waging attacks against the opposition in efforts to re-take the city.
