Hakim Ali Zardari, a seasoned politician and the father of President Asif Ali Zardari passed away after protracted illness here on Tuesday.
He was 81. Hospitalized after being seriously ill since the last few weeks, his condition deteriorated in the last few days. Doctors struggled to save his life by keeping him on ventilator, however, he succumbed to the illness.
Presidential Spokesman Farhatullah Babar confirmed to media that Hakim Ali Zardari breathed his last at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences where he was getting treatment since March.
Late Hakim Ali Zardari, known as Raees Hakim Khan, father of President Asif Ali Zardari, was born in 1930 in Village Fatohal Zardari in a landlord family of Nawabshah. He got his initial education in a mosque school of the village and completed matriculation from DC High School Nawabshah.
He continued his education in reputed educational institutions of Hyderabad and Karachi. Hakim Ali Zardari was one of the art lovers of the country who established cinema houses in Hyderabad and Karachi, worked as film distributor and also produced a Sindhi film Soorath.
Late Hakim Ali Zardari started his political career in 1965 when he was elected as the member of District Council Nawabshah and later elected as the Vice President of the Divisional Council. During the period he played key role in the development of Nawabshah and the people of the city still remembered his services in this respect.
During Presidential Election 1965, Hakim Ali Zardari supported Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah against the then President Ayub Khan and after termination of the latter’s government, he joined Pakistan Peoples Party in 1970 as one of its founder members. He was elected as the President of Zardari tribe in a convention held in Latif Hall Nawabshah the same year.
He returned to the National Assembly on the ticket of PPP in 1970 elections and then in 1988 from Nawabshah. He served as the Chairman of Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly. He lost elections in 1990, but won 1993 elections. He also served the nation twice as federal minister during the PPP governments.

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday expressed deep grief over the death of Hakim Ali Zardari, the father of President Asif Ali Zardari. The Prime Minister termed the passing away of late Hakim Zardari as a great loss for the country.
He said the nation had deprived of a seasoned politician who contributed positively for the country. He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with equanimity.
Another report says; Ministers, legislators and people from different walks of life on Tuesday expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Hakim Ali Zardari, father of President Asif Ali Zardari and said Pakistan has lost a seasoned politician. Talking to media persons outside the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Minister for Petroleum, Dr. Asim Hussain said late Hakim Ali Zardari was not only the kind of man people wanted to be, he was the kind of man people would be proud to be.
Minister for Ports and Shipping, Babar Ghauri expressed his deepest sympathies with President Zardari during time of loss and said services of Hakim Zardari for politics would long be remembered. Advisor to Prime Minister, Syed Qasim Shah said his thoughts and prayers are with President Zardari and for his family on this heartbreaking time. “There’s nothing I can say that will ease pain but I just wanted to say that Hakim Ali Zardari was a great politician who would long be remembered,” he added.
Advisor to Prime Minister, Mustafa Khokhar, extending deep and heartfelt sympathies with the President, said he feels so sorry over the irreparable loss. Former Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sherry Rehman, Former Minister of State, Ayatullah Durrani, Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Dr Mehreen Raza Bhutto, Secretary Health, Nargis Sethi, Chairman, Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal, Zamurd Khan, Managing Director, Associated Press of Pakistan, Muhammad Riaz and Central Executive Committee Member of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Qazi Sultan Mahmood also visited the hospital and condoled the death of Hakim Ali Zardari. They prayed to Allah Almighty to grant courage to bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also expressed grief and sorrow over the death of Hakim Ali Zardari, father of President Asif Ali Zardari. In his condolence message issued on Tuesday, Shahbaz Sharif prayed for rest to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss with fortitude. Agencies
