History & Context
Qutb Shahi Tombs form the royal necropolis of the dynasty that ruled from Golconda and founded Hyderabad in 1591. The complex developed between the 16th and 17th centuries.
Visitors often expect simple graves and are surprised by the scale. Large domes, arcaded galleries and gardens make it feel like an open-air architectural museum.
The site is usually quieter than Golconda Fort, with open lawns and mature trees creating a reflective atmosphere.
Visit it before or after Golconda Fort. Together they explain the power, legacy and architecture of the Qutb Shahi dynasty.
