History & Context
Chowmahalla Palace was the ceremonial seat of the Nizams of Hyderabad. Construction began in the mid-18th century and continued across generations of the Asaf Jahi dynasty.
Unlike a defensive fort, Chowmahalla reflects royal administration and public ceremony. Coronations, receptions and important state functions were held here.
The Khilwat Mubarak durbar hall, courtyards, chandeliers, vintage cars and fountains make the palace feel like a working court preserved in fragments.
Pair it with Charminar, Mecca Masjid and Laad Bazaar to understand the Old City heritage circuit in one visit.
